Construction of 53 Self Contained Student Accommodation Flats.
This period development was a conversion of an existing Grade 2 listed with the addition of two new floors. We worked very closely with Islington Council and the conservation officers in order to achieve the very high quality fit out required whilst respecting the historic values of this 1909 built building. All the building features were carefully restored to their original condition and with the insertion of a pocket Museum the students and general public can admire the kept samples rescued from the construction of this building.
We also had to construct within this building 3 well-equipped common rooms and 3 laundry rooms. There was also a consideration to make this building as DDA compliant as practically possible and with the help of our Building Control officer this was achieved. We also had to replace the lift and shaft and construct a further 4 accessible student flats.
As part of this Design and Build project, we also had a very high-energy strategy and standard to achieve as part of a BREEAM. This was achieved with the insertion of a very efficient plant room incorporating a CHP producing 5.8 kw per hour assisted with 99 solar photovoltaic panels situated on the flat roof producing the required output to completely run all the electrical requirements of the building.
This project was completed to a very high standard and delivered on time as per the schedule agreed.
